The Privy Purse - part II Empty The Privy Purse - part II

Post  Pishkirlin Sun Aug 31, 2008 2:29 am

On the 4th of September of the year of grace 2008, the sloop came to completion.

The shipbuilder could proudly show his masterpiece to the King.

- Excellent job. Congratulations, my good subject! We now need a proper name for such a floating purse.
- Indeed, Your Majesty. My boys and I were thinking of dubbing it...

The Privy Purse needs a proper name. I am looking for a standard rename with a pecuniary theme.
It must be name formed by an English adjective + a fish name from the database fishbase.org.

Rules
Each entrant can propose up to three names.
Post your names in this thread.
On September 5 the thread will be locked and a poll will be opened with all the valid names.

Prizes
The winner will receive a duty: buying 3 shanghais for 30.000 Pieces of Eight. Two shanghais and the leftover from the buying (if any) will be donated to the winner so he could rename one of his sloops as he pleases.

Please post in this thread any question concerning the mission.
No answers will be provided in-game. Thanks for your understanding.

Post your names below.

HMS Goldtaler
Royal Goldtaler
Taxing Goldtaler

taler

Not an English adjective. I forgot to mention that there must be an entry for the adjective on dictionary.com. Choose another one.

The Privy Purse - part II Empty nomination from fata

Post  fatuzza Wed Sep 03, 2008 10:30 am

i have my 3 nave for the ship but i can't post my name so i try here

scrambling eel
ok, from the Italian translation you provided shall I infer that you meant climbing with the meaning of social climber?

padded barracuda
I think stuffed it's more appropriate

opulent whale
Ye, pirate of fresh water! Is the whale a fish? If ye think everything that swims in the sea is a fish, ye might soon find yerself walking the plank for scientific purpose and see if your name is added to the database. Yarrrrrr! Choose another fishname.

Post  mmiimmii Wed Sep 03, 2008 3:57 pm

as for the pecuniary theme...tusked as in the elephant whose tusks are very very valuable as well as weapons of defense and silver(side) be almost as valuable as gold.......glistening as in sparkle of gold which is found at the end of the rainbow(fish) lol...i know a bit of a stretch..but creative

Ok my last entry....I went to the Merriam-Webster Thesaurus and looked up money as that be the theme....i found the name of a fish that also is one of the finest tasting around...fit for a king..

CAPITAL GREENBACK

:face:

Ok, explicantions accepted. Thanks. Also, I've merged your last post with this one for semplicity.

The Privy Purse - part II Empty Last but not least!

Post  Picturesque Fri Sep 05, 2008 12:40 pm

The King's ship must have a regal-name! mumble mumble....

...But the modern king must also have a kind of self irony...mumble mumble...

...So could be:

1. Regal Plaice (because the sound and pronunciation figure the idea of a ship as a royal place to sail around...)

2. Regal Sardine (also the simplest fish can be a king in its biological category...)

3. Regal Clownfish (if a King don't know as to be a little 'clown', which King would it be?)

Regal-regards, my dears! Always yous!

The Privy Purse - part II Empty Results of the vote

Post  Chamberlain Mon Sep 08, 2008 4:09 am

Winner: Princely Sum (33 pts.)
2nd place: Strong Box (32 pts.)
3rd place: Glistening Raibowfish (31 pts.)
4th place: Taxing Goldtaler and Taxing Royal (30 pts.)

The complete results are available upon request. Send a PM to this account or to Pishkirlin and I'll give you a link to a screenshot taken from the survey website.

Since Pishkirlin's entry results to be the winning one, the sloop will be renamed as such, but the prize goes to Mmiimii (who now has to find 3 shanghai for 30k).

Congratulations to all the entrants!
