Nowruz: the Spring Festival Nowruz10

Hear ye, hear ye!
This year we are bringing back one of the most ancient holidays of Ascalon, culminating with the 2nd anniversary of the foundation of Glimmer of Light, on March 26.
Nowruz used to be observed by the Persian community of Ascalon (the one to which Azarbad himself belongs!). It celebrates the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in Iranian and Ascalonese calendar. This year it will mark the transition from the year of food to the year of art!

Expected events:
  • Art contests
  • Azarbad hunts
  • Duty puzzle competions
  • Tournaments and events celebrating the 2nd anniversary of Glimmer of Light...

... and loads of sangreazuls! This year we want at least one new Lord/Lady!

Spring festival? Bah! We still got tonnes of snow over here, and I'm lucky living in the westcoast of sweden, close to the hot Gulf Stream and down south.
I don't feel like celebrating something that isn't here yet, but I will join in for the fun anyway! pleased

OFF-TOPIC ALERT!

This one is from someone I used to know on the internetz. I used to be a part of a swedish game-making community when I was younger (their current domain is www.varg42.se). Sure, I didn't make many games back then. But it was fun discussing and playing other people's noobish creations back then.

Yeah. What about deserving it? *wink* *wink*
On February 25, for instance I have sent you a PM saying that I was willing to give 50 azuls to you and your Senior Officers for the loyalty shown to Ascalon, if you could come up with a story. Now, since I'm still waiting for an answer, I have thought to turn it anyway into a contest for Nowruz... but this proves how I have often given the chance of advancing in the ranks and yet people have not made any effort to catch it.
I'm more than willing to reward those who work hard for their improvement (I will always bring forth Mmiimmii as an example), but do not expect sangreazul to fall from sky, because it won't happen. This is what makes our flag so special, after all. :-P

Ok, so I have just disclosed that one of the first events will be about your loyalty to Ascalon. I guess it falls under the art contest and I think I will officially launch it tomorrow or Saturday. Wink

Reminds me of qoute by Mark Twain. "The only time "Success" comes before "Work" is in the dictionary." That goes for "Sangre Azul" too Razz

I have told the others about the story and I have made a decent start of it. (I got bored waiting for the bus, laptops are very useful sometimes!)

Triumph of the Light
Artistic and literary contest

This event is meant to celebrate both the return of Spring (too bad here it just snowed) and Glimmer of Light to Ascalon as the astonomical triumph of light over darkness marked by the vernal point.

Rules
1. You can use any genre and medium, as long as your poem, story or artwork represents an allegory of the Triumph of the Light.
Allegory is a form of extended metaphor, in which objects, persons, and actions in a narrative, are equated with the meanings that lie outside the narrative itself. The underlying meaning has moral, social, religious, or political significance, and characters are often personifications of abstract ideas as charity, greed, or envy.
Thus an allegory is a story with two meanings, a literal meaning and a symbolic meaning.
2. Post your entries in this entry thread.

Deadline
25 March 2010

Judging and prizes
The overall winner, that will be awarded with 30 sangreazuls, will be declared judging both the quality of execution and the compliance to the requirement of the allegorical representation.
Honorable mentions will get various amounts of sangreazul according to the aforementioned judging parameters.

Shoot the Moon
Bake-off contest

The Sovereign Dragon will be engaged in a sea battle and disengage after 30 minutes. The crew must station up and puzzle bake-off style. You can decide to play as many puzzles as you want, focusing on one or playing them all and maybe even shooting the moon, resulting the top puzzler in all stations at the duty report.

Taking and changing stations
Stationing will work on a "first come, first served" basis. There is no guarantee that one can manage to find a free station a play all the puzzles.
Nonetheless, in order to synchronize the ones who wants to trade stations as well as give gunners the opportunity to play the puzzle, every 5 minutes the Sovereign Dragon will fire her 24 cannons. That will be the signal that the swapping windows is open and people can change station, if they want. Changing station is not compulsory though.

Date and time
Saturday, March 20 Sunday, March 21
19:00 Ascalon time (GMT)

Prizes
Each top puzzler will receive 10 sangreazuls, but if one manages to shoot the moon will get double the amount, which is a good 100 azuls!!!

No, Azeitona. You can't play Duty Navigation during a sea battle.

You need to make something artistic that is a metaphore about what happened to the Glimmer of Light and Ascalon during the dark times.
It could be a picture, a poem, a story. Basicly anything that you can post on an internet forum, as long as it was created by you and it is relevant.

i really dosnt understands metaphore thingy what about an example?

EDIT: I read Acerin's entry and it was good Smile
If me thinks right youll have to read ''beetween the lines'' to understand the whole story?

Is it that metaphore means? And is that we should include to our story?

Yes.

Anyway, the title of the event is an allegory per se. If you stick to it, you can't do it wrong.

Ok, but for those who don't want to play them all, 30 minutes of one puzzle are grindy enough. If you want, we can make it 45. One hour would be just insane.
