This sounds like a great competition. I will see if I can make something by using my (pixel)artistic talents

About the food, does it have to be something that actually is a commodity in PP or could be anything as lon as it is "piratey"?.

Whatever you make has to include a reference to Ascalon, it can be anything that refers to Ascalon. A drawing, A visual representation, whatever makes us think of our flag. It can't be written though. Make sure you include it in your creation! It's one of the rules.

Someone asked me if it was allowed to use any kind of internet/pc art tool such as MS Paint and if I knew a website on the internet where to draw.

Yes, everything is allowed. And yes, there are several art tools online where you can draw and paint thingies, this one for example I like a lot:

Also - in pirate times.. Would they have cranes? Like you know at harbours you have those cranes to lift freight from ships. Just a thought :]

I couldn't find a better quality picture so I'm taking a close up phot o of the right hand side to prove to gull. THEY'RE STANDING ON FRUIT. and he's drinking beer. i'll colour it in after this to make it more obvious. i'm just taking pictures b+w incase colouring goes all wrong.
