Ahoy mates, I'm Rubydeath a former knight from a few years past. Today brings news that Puzzle Pirates will be merging certain servers together, part of this involves Hunter and Sage forming together somehow. More can be read here :
http://forums.puzzlepirates.com/community/mvnforum/viewthread?thread=177049

On Hunter I play as Roketqueen, my main name and first pirate, and I'd like to say that I'm excited to see what the future of these changes will bring to the game and personally my own gameplay, I hope it can reignite the passion I once had in the game.

My meaning of this post was to offer my help and advice to you all in learning about the Hunter side of the new ocean and offering my charting, whisking and hearty services! I hope such offers can be returned towards myself and my crew.

Fair winds to you for now mates Smile Ruby/Roket

Hello Ruby, thank you for offering help in the exploration of the unknown. I don't have any other friend on Hunter and as soon as I read about the merging on the forum I thought of you. If I'll ever come back I'll certainly look after you!

Apparently 'Emerald' will be the new name of Hunter and Sage, while the other oceans will be called 'Meridian' and 'Cerulean'.

Cool! I've always disliked 'Sage', 'Emerald' sounds so much better!

Sadly if anything it is a sign of the game's slow death by lack of players. Still this will keep it going a bit longer. A few old players return for a month or so.

Distances across ocean become even more huge, especially for gems. Help load big ships for a while, which are not as good to be on anyway.

It is the only thing they can do of course. Wait on the merge of all 4. Shocked

lol, it has been months since i last have been on this forum, and then hear news like this... Very Happy
i really missed you guys, and i am relieved the forum is at least still a bit alive.
but i don't think i will start playing again. the game is way too much of the same every time, it got outdated for me and others. and if Three Rings Design isn't willing to change that this game will get nowhere. i would love to see them add some real minigames instead of wagering or repairing a vessel all the time.
do you guys agree? any suggestions?
would love to hear you guys back after this long while!

P.S. if you want to stay in contact with me, add me on e-mail:

I must agree with you: the game is awfully outdated. Let me mention the most blatant mistake: they haven't implemented any messaging system except for the crew and flag bulletin board, which are even bad conceived (you can't even post if you are not an officer or royal). We live the age of Email, Facebook and Twitter and we are not even able to send a message to a fellow pirate who is not online. YPP is a social game with an antisocial interface.
Of course, there are other issues too: loading time, the fact that almost any other activity is most profitable than pillage, etc.
And the worst part of all this is that instead of coming up with new solutions, Three Rings can only pull out limited edition ships (or ocean merges).

This is proof that they are simply trying to squeeze out as much time and money as possible from the game before it tanks even worse.
Also, by merging the oceans they would save some money on server maintainance, wouldn't they?

Not me, I have more stimulating games to waste my free time on now! At times the game felt more like a responsability than a game, because I didn't want to let my crew down.

I think you are hard on PP. It is more a place to do puzzle games but with an underlying rating and rewards system. There are vast numbers of puzzle games on the web that have no connection or purpose beyond high score boards. PP gives a virtual world and diversionary purpose to doing them.

Of course there are different games almost all costing real money, hack and slash and shoot action. Some with 'world's to live in and acquire unique 'items' from good or long play.

The large variety of play in PP is good for all sorts of players. You do not have to 'socialise' at all, and can still solo, you can just run shops, or forage, or parlour game against people or bots. Or just hang about the dock doing nothing but chat aimlessly. Or the whole flag blockade island bigger end operations.

Ok so the youth element seems to want yet another social messaging system. Really? Their chat system may be a bit cumbersome but the ability so select audience from one on one tells, circle only, to crew wide, or officer only is useful.

The great loading waiting problem could be addressed by queueing the right to be on the noticeboard, so the current one fills before a new one gets on it, particularly for big ships. Or re jigging the Atlantis and HS to be more functional to small ships as CIs are set.

The continual addition of more furniture, LE ships, and ship furniture, pets, is good, more more more!

Glad to hear that you are still enjoying the game, James. Personally I only play puzzlegames when I am bored at school, to be frank, and with puzzlepirates the whole idea is to spend hours at a time gathering loot and plunder. I used to love this game because the puzzle elements added a new dimension of skill.
In other MMO games, like WoW, you get better as you play and reach new levels. A level 1 player would always loose to a lvl 70 (or whatever the max level cap is nowadays). In puzzlepirates, your value is much more about skill, rather than in-game exp.
A smart greenie COULD (thoug rare in practice) beat a veteran by preforming better in puzzles, that's what liked.
Unfortuatly, the puzzles just can't compete with the raw action and quick rewards of other games (for me personally), which is why I became more and more inactive. I just didn't care for running pillages for half a day just pay my captains badge, lol!

That said, I am not saying I won't log in a few times (thought very, very rarely) for old times sake.

The chat system is useful for online players, the issue here is communicating with people who are offline. God knows how much time we have wasted waiting for a mate to log on in order to start a pillage. If we only had the chance to send everyone an email, maybe somebody would have actually logged on. Synchronization, that's what PP really needs! And yes, a messaging system could help a lot.

The great loading waiting problem could be addressed by queueing the right to be on the noticeboard, so the current one fills before a new one gets on it, particularly for big ships.
The right to be on the noticeboard? Oh, that would be great. But how would you actually grant this right? It is not a trivial issue.

Nope. When the house is on fire, you may want to extinguish the fire first.

I check into PP much more often than any e-mail account! So perhaps that would work for some but not generally.

Surely those that want can exchange e-mails for such use already? It is hardly something to welcome, spam e-mails to hearties or randomly as a means of filling a ship? Spam tells are more effective, the person is at least on line playing or looking to.

The only chat issue in PP is the lack of ability to leave a message to the offline. Even that can be got round using house/hall room news, or even the crew issues for non private communications.

Yes I realise it could be a tricky thing to sort out. But a start could be made perhaps by limiting the number of certain size ships on the separate boards, pillage/SMH. Only one WF/GF in each at a time, 2? WB and similar, 7? sloops size. First come first served, or by b-nav rank as one part of the priority, and filled, making room for the next. Some way of limiting anyway, recently there have been loads of average sloops all looking to load, some restriction might mean the first fill and go, reducing waiting for all. In effect sometimes it is done voluntarily anyway, WF SMHs will often put in message, filling after the other one is loaded. Could be tried out just with the big ships to see effects.

Furniture, ships, etc, will not detract from game alterations. I suspect the one is done by artists, the other by programmers. Further the new and especially the LE must drive up shop activity, which drives poe need.

First you do not need a captain's badge to run the pillages only officer. That would take no more than 2 days play to earn jobbing. Well ok for me. It would be a poor day I made under 10k jobbing. Even soloing as I have in this pillage till ye drop event. I made over 150k, much more stock left over at the end than started with, over the 8 days, 252 battles won. Ok some heavy hours put in, but no loading, time loss.

Of course the zap pow type games appeal is different, and quite understandable that many prefer it.
