Boring Ironworks
I want to start having my Ironworking stall have swords available and would like to know what you guys would want if i did. Since i would be giving you guys some mad discounts on stuff.

Re: Boring Ironworks
right now i don't have money for more advanced swords and i odn't know much about the individual swords.
My vote went to the Longsword becouse I don't think (maybe i am wrong) it's as expensive as the others.

Re: Boring Ironworks
I've voted for the falchion and the skull dagger, being the high end swords I use when I'm in the mood of wasting money for a blade. Recently I have ordered a couple of stilettos, being my favourite sword and the one I suggest to buy to players who don't want to spend a fortune (Bubuie bought one upon my suggestion too). So you might want to add that to your list.
By the way, on which island do you want to open your IM? As you probably know, Ruby already have one on Bowditch and she doesn't want to produce swords for the moment. I don't know, maybe you can be business partners? I can't speak on her behalf though, so you'd better ask her.

Stiletto is my 4rth rated sword i believe for my usage but i never see anyone using them so i didn't place them on the list. I don't know how to edit the poll however so if more people voice their opinion towards them ill take it into consideration. Also it is on Admiral where is isn't my own personal shop but one of my hearties, Barbarosaa, who didn't want it so like Acerin's shipbuilding stall i am in control of everything that goes on in it. I have not talked to ruby about becoming partners but since hers is in bowditch out of my arch it would be harder for me to get back and forth.

If you want to edit the poll, just edit your first post.

Nothing comes up for the poll when i click edit post. Most likely because people have already voted on them.

Re: Boring Ironworks
Not be be the boring one here...
In the past, (not on Sage) when i had my IM which produced swords (also before the puzzle came out) I wondered.. which swords will sell best, from my experience i only widely knew of Falchion, Scimitar, Short Sword, Cleaver and Foil (but who would ever order one of those i asked..)
So, i started by getting a bit of each enamel, gradually building up my minerals to see which sold.
Check out what other people are selling.. if you find a lack of one type of enamel.. purple perhaps.. then get purple enamel!
I started off making the swords with minerals close by via bid tickets. (Admiral doesn't spawn any minerals.. neither does anything close.. perhaps that works in your favour though, meaning other merchants/shop owners have to trade ocean wide too.)
Scrimshaw and Bowditch both spawn Iron.. I would highly recommend you calculating if you can make any profit from the cheaper Iron + the slight shipping cost.
Key pointer - Being the cheapest has benefits.. but being the quickest with a higher price is always worthwhile.
Again.. thats my experience from Hunter not Sage.. this place is alot more developed so things here may not apply

Re: Boring Ironworks
From my experience being the on Admiral the cheapest is better. Only when i was just starting out did i have enough time to make stuff to sell at the dock every other time i have been swamped with cannonball orders until im out of iron. I ship my iron from scrimshaw and wood from wens since im going to be holding more stock for my ship i decided that i would offer swords to the crew. Whether or not ill open this as a permanent item or not is still in the air. But i was also going to run a poll seeing what colors people wanted to narrow my search down as they can be expensive.

Speaking from personal experience, cbs are the bread and butter of an ironmongery. Swords are the icing on the cakes. And sometimes it's a very thin layer of icing.(unfortunately I never prepared a spreadsheet on ironmongers although I still have them for apoths or shipbuilding if anyone is interested) I suspect you will want to start with the lower priced swords which require more easily obtained material and build your way up. Some of those minerals are pretty durned expensive requiring an enormous outlay not to mention the time needed to obtain them. Also you won't be able to stock everything needed to make all the types of swords and still make cbs as well. Best of luck Leo

Re: Boring Ironworks
Well I don't even now if im making money from this at all im pretty sure im not but anyway i don't really care. I unfortunately am not patient enough to keep track of everything that is going in and out in terms of pricing and stuff like that.

Re: Boring Ironworks
Start with XX poe keep it always at XX poe. Bit late for you now, but easiest way to track

Well if you aren't making money, you should be. Small cbs and even medium cbs sell the most although there is (or was) more of a profit in terms of percentage on the large cbs. As you have a cutter, your expenses to take a load of iron from Bowditch (where I believe iron costs less) is only the rum you consume soloing (about 4 units). Carry no cbs as they take up room and you don't want to fight anyway, which frees up room for more iron.
And don't take orders for cbs, sell only premade cbs.

Re: Boring Ironworks
My inventory has never gone below 10,000 poe but also never above 13. Take in to account all the times i have bought iron not looking good. I usually take it from scrimshaw and my cutter is on wens getting it from wens to admiral for me is like 5 battles with my luck from admiral to scrim who knows.

Re: Boring Ironworks
If you want to do it the easy way (And less profitable), I suggest buying all your goods from the merchants.
Once you get rid of troublesome task of moving commods around half the world, all you need to do is adjust your prices every week or so and keep ordering balls so you can sell them dockside. The money gained from selling them will be automatically invested in more commods.
It's the simple way.
